John A. Sickinger is an Associate in our Syracuse office.
He graduated from Le Moyne College where he received a B.A. in Political Science. He obtained a J.D. from the Syracuse University College of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. He is admitted to practice in New York State, as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Western District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Mr. Sickinger’s practice is devoted to civil litigation and appellate practice, with an emphasis on the representation of municipalities and school districts. He has extensive experience representing municipal entities in constitutional, Section 1983, use of force, labor and employment, general liability, contract, medical malpractice, and education law matters.
Mr. Sickinger has also represented clients in numerous administrative proceedings before the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, New York Division of Human Rights, New York State Civil Service Commission, New York Department of Labor, and the New York State Education Department.
As part of his practice, Mr. Sickinger counsels municipalities on a range of issues including Freedom of Information Law, Open Meetings Law, civil service and other compliance matters.
Prior to Schwab & Gasparini, Mr. Sickinger served as a Senior Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Syracuse, where he also served as the City’s Supervising Litigation Attorney. Previously, he worked as a litigation and appellate attorney at two Syracuse law firms. After graduating from law school, Mr. Sickinger completed a fellowship with the New York State Senate before entering private practice.
